It was a dark and stormy night in sheffield. The date was 11th of march 1864, I just finished my 12 hour shift in the steelworks. I lived in a really old house in low down Bradfield. It was about 8:45 in the evening and suddenly I heard a knock on the door. Then I opened it. I saw John Craven looking really worried. He said “The Dam is leaking, so you must leave your house just in case anything happens”. I told all my neighbours in the village to go up hill. At 11:30 the Dam burst, I was walking up hill in the rain but I was being pushed back by the wind and suddenly I was washed away with the currant………
I was screaming for help but people were to scared to help me. I was desperate for someone to reach out to me. I saw houses getting destroyed and people clinging onto anything they could find. Luckily I managed to hang onto the side where I slowly pulled myself up to high ground. I was relieved that I survived, but some of my friends were not that lucky.
