Building Bridges

Another fun filled day in Year6. While six of our class were helping Mrs Cooper with the highly successful Spring of Singing in church, the remaining children were given the challenge of building a bridge with only limited materials. In keeping with this term’s topic, the bridge had to celebrate all that is Sheffield, hold a 250g mass, span a 30cm gap and be made using only paper, string, glue, Sellotape and paperclips.

As you can see they excelled in their creative design skills and learned that teamwork was vital to success.

We were lucky to have a real engineer come into class to judge our bridges and listen to our presentations. He taught us some interesting information about tension and compression and he was so impressed with our efforts that he agreed to come back next term and give us another challenge! Thanks Mr Golland ( and for the chocolate!)

I’m sure you’ll agree their bridges are amazing and they are all winners!

It was a shame that I missed it, but hopefully we will be able to do it another time.
