COVID-19: During the school year 2019-20, schools throughout the UK were put into lock down from 20th March 2020. Virtual governor meetings were held from then on, with additional meetings being held to update governors about school’s plans in relation to the pandemic.  Some governors who work in the health service and local government, were heavily involved in the local approach to Covid-19 and were therefore unable to attend as many meetings as they would previoulsy have done.
For the academic year 2020-21, the governors have agreed to maintain virtual meetings until it is safe to meet in person.

What we do
We have a full governing body meeting at least once a term to look at the issues which affect the school as a whole. We have three committees:
  • Education covers many of the school policies and focuses on teaching and learning in the school.
  • Finance and Premises covers the school budget and how it is spent as well has considering all aspects of the buildings and any related health and safety issues.
  • Catholic Nature focuses on how we maintain the Catholic ethos of the school.
Each committee meets at least once a term. There is also a Pay committee which meets annually.
Policies and agreed minutes of meetings are available on request via the school office.
As governors we receive training to help us keep up to date with developments in the education system, and to help us to do our job effectively. We visit the school regularly to meet with the headteacher, other staff and pupils, to help us find out how the school is progressing towards its targets. We also liaise with the Diocese of Hallam.
Being a governor demands a definite time commitment but is very rewarding. Governors give their time freely, they are volunteers.  At Sacred Heart School, we benefit greatly from having governors with a wide variety of skills and backgrounds but our governors all have one thing in common: we care deeply about Sacred Heart School!
Our Chair of Governors is Mr Lee Higgins.
Our Vice-Chair of Governors is Dr Marta Emmett.
