Mrs Mills is the teacher in our Year One class. Mrs Hinchliffe teaches on a Tuesday afternoon and all day Friday. Our PE day is Tuesday.

Class Saint

St George. Patron Saint of England. Feast day is 23rd April. 

St. George was raised a Christian and always wanted to be a soldier. When he was old enough, he joined the army. The leader of the army decided that everyone in his army must worship him and the Roman gods instead. George refused. Knowing that he would soon be arrested and executed, George gave all his money away to the poor and prepared himself for death.

Maths

Multiplication and Division: Count in 2s, 10s and 5s. Doubles. Making equal groups by grouping and sharing. 

Fractions: Recognising and finding halves and quarters of objects, shapes and quantities. 

Position and Direction: Describe turns. Describe position - left, right, forwards, backwards, above and below. Ordinal numbers. 

Place Value within 100: Count from 50 to 100. Tens to 100. Partition into tens and ones. Number line to 100. 1 more and 1 less. Compare two numbers. 

Money: Recognise coins and notes. Count in coins. 

Time: Before and after. Days of the week. Months of the year. Hours, minutes and seconds. Tell the time to the hour and half hour. 

English

Phonics - Learning gaps in set 2 and 3 phonemes. Reading with fluency.

Beginning to punctuate sentences using a capital letter and a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark. Writing sentences joining words and clauses using ‘and’. Writing sentences to create short narratives and non-fiction texts. Using –ing, –ed, –er and –est where no change is needed in the spelling of root words [for example, helping, helped, helper, eating, quicker, quickest]

Art

Use drawing and painting to develop and share our ideas, experiences and imagination. Develop a range of art and design techniques using colour, pattern, texture, line and shape. Study the artists, Parviz Tanovoli, QHAQHOO (Pronounced Kakoo) and Eric Carle, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to our own work.

Science

Animals including humans - identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. Describe and compare the structure of a variety of common animals (fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals, including pets)

Plants –Identify and name a variety of common wild and garden plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees. Identify and describe the basic structure of a variety of common flowering plants, including trees

Design and Technology

Food: Preparing fruits and vegetables. 

PE

Target Games: underarm throw, overarm throw

Athletics: run, balance, agility, co-ordination, hop, jump, leap, throw

Computing

Creating media- various aspects of using a computer to create and change text. Familiarise themselves with typing on a keyboard and begin using tools to change the look of their writing, and then they will consider the differences between using a computer and writing on paper to create text.

Programming – On-screen programming through ScratchJr. Children will explore the way a project looks by investigating sprites and backgrounds. Use programming blocks to use, modify, and create programs. Early stages of program design through the introduction of algorithms.

Music

What pitch is and how we can recognise high, middle and low sounds. What types of instruments make high and low-pitched sounds. Identify high-pitched sounds, name some high-pitched instruments, and then sing at a high pitch. Understand how to change the pitch of our singing voices, practise singing at different pitches and follow the pitch of a song with our hands.

PSHE / RSE

Living in the Wider World: learn about the different local and global communities that they are part of, and what rights and responsibilities come with belonging to these communities. Understand more about the purpose of work and the harmful impact of gender stereotypes in the workplace, alongside an introduction to the concept of vocation. Consolidate learning about what money is and will explore the choices we have with our money. All of this is underpinned by the religious understanding that our identity, value and worth comes from God.
